Perugia

Frescoes (1750)

The frescoes in the Oratorio del Crocifisso in Santa Maria Nuova  are by Pietro Carattoli and Antonio Maria Garbi.

Virgin with SS Anne and Joachim (18th century)

This altarpiece by Antonio Maria Garbi is on the high altar of Santa Maria dei Francolini.






Works in Sant’ Ercolano (18th century)

Two altarpieces by Antonio Maria Garbi survive in Sant’ Ercolano:
  1. St Herculanus reviving a dead child, on the altar of the Cappella di San Martino [which was no longer on the altar at the time of my visit of 2013]; and

  2. the Virgin with SS Anne and Joachim, in the sacristy (illustrated here).



Works in Santa Teresa degli Scalzi (18th century)

Two altarpieces that are attributed to Antonio Maria Garbi survive in Santa Teresa degli Scalzi:

  1. the Pietà with SS Mary Magdalene and John the Evangelist (illustrated here); and
  2. the Virgin with SS Aloysius Gonzaga (who had been canonised in 1726) and Mary-Magdalen de’ Pazzi

This panel in the Chiesa della Morte is attributed to Antonio Maria Garbi.





Amelia

Panel (18th century)

This panel on the altar on the left in SS Annunziata, which depicts SS Bernardino of Siena, Bonaventure, Elizabeth of Hungary and Margaret of Cortona, is attributed to Anton Maria Garbi.  It forms the backdrop to a crucifix by the Croatian Fr. Fulgencije Bakotic (died 1792), who spent the last 44 years of his life at SS Annunziata. 

Assisi

Works in Santa Maria degli Angeli

Works by Antonio Maria Garbi that survive in Santa Maria degli Angeli include:

  1. a fresco (1773) on the left wall of the Cappella di Sant’ Antonio Abate, which depicts St Antony Abbot reviving a dead child; and

  2. frescoes (1773) in the vaults of the Cappella di San Diego d’ Alcalà, which depict:

  3. St Diego in glory; and

  4. the Cardinal Virtues.

Antonio Maria Garbi also painted a fresco on the right wall of the Cappella di Sant’ Antonio Abate, but this was later destroyed

Double-sided banner (18th century)

This processional banner in San Paolo, which is attributed to Antonio Maria Garbi, depicts:

  1. SS Rufinus, Francis and Clare on one side; and

  2. the Deposition of Christ on the other.

Death of St Andrew Avellino  (1764)

This altarpiece in Santa Maria sopra Minerva (on the altar on the right) is attributed to Antonio Maria Garbi.







Foligno

The Assumption and St Bonaventura (18th century)

This altarpiece on the high altar of the Oratorio del Gonfalone is attributed to Anton Maria Garbi.







Montefalco

Assumption of the Virgin (18th century)

This altarpiece by Antonio Maria Garbi from San Filippo Neri, Montefalco is now in the Pinacoteca.  It is a faithful copy of an altarpiece (1637) by Guido Reni from San Filippo Neri, Perugia, which is now in the Musée des Beaux Arts, Lyon.
