Key to Umbria: Foligno
 

The architect Vincenzo Vitali was born in Foligno and spent his career there.  He was a proponent of neoclassical design. 

Foligno

Facade of Chiesa del Suffragio (1821)

Vincenzo Vitelli designed the neoclassical brick facade of the Chiesa del Suffragio.  His design survives in the archives of the Cathedral chapter.






Oratorio della Nunziatella (1830)

Vincenzo Vitelli designed the neoclassical brick exterior of the Oratorio della Nunziatella.  His design survives in the archives of the Cathedral chapter.





Facade of Palazzo Trinci (1842-7)

Vincenzo Vitelli built the neoclassical facade of Palazzo Trinci to a design initiated by Odoardo Poggi and developed by Sigismondo Ferretti.



Campanile of the Duomo (1847)

Vincenzo Vitelli designed the upper part of the rebuilt campanile of the Duomo.






Ospedale di San Giovanni Battista (1845-60)

Vincenzo Vitali designed and built this new hospital on the site of the monastery of San Giovanni Battista.  It remained in use until 1989.



Via XX Settembre (ca. 1878)

This street (originally Via Campana - see Walk I) was laid out in 1880 according to a plan by Vincenzo Vitali.
