Key to Umbria: Spello
 

The church probably belonged originally to the Confraternita dei Disciplinati di Sant’ Anna, which is documented from 1362 and was suppressed in 1571 by the Apostolic Visitor, Monsignor Pietro Camaiani (see also the page on the Cappella Tega).  The church has been heavily restored over the centuries.

Madonna and Child with St Anne and angels (16th century)


This fresco is on the facade, to the left of the entrance, protected by the portico.

Interior


Altarpiece

The composite altarpiece of the high altar comprises:
  1. a painted wooden crucifix (14th century); and

  2. a panel (15th century) painted in tempera, which depicts angels to the sides of the Cross and the Virgin and St Anne kneelingbelow.



SS Job and Anne (late 15th century)

These adjacent frescoes are in the 2nd bay of the right wall.




St Sebastian (1502)

This fresco, which is dated by inscription, is on the left wall, in the bay that contains the altar.








Madonna and Child with saints and angels (1546)

This fresco, which is dated by inscription, is in a niche in the 3rd bay of the right wall.  It depicts the Madonna and Child with SS Anne, Vitalis and Roch, and donor portraits.   God the Father with angles are in the lunette above.




Madonna and Child enthroned with St Anne (16th century)

This fresco is on the left wall, in the bay that contains the altar.
